Troop 103 Updates

Philmont 2019 Participants (Very Important!)

Philmont Scout Ranch Patch Scouts and Scouters going to Philmont,

As mentioned last night in circle up, we have a meeting this Thursday night at 6:30PM at the church in the multipurpose room downstairs. The purpose of the meeting is for each crew to decide the top 3 choices of treks for Philmont. Our trek selection occurs next week on the 29th, so it is imperative that as many of you as possible from each crew is present this Thursday to have your voice heard on trek selection.

Uniform is come as you are and be ready to choose your top 3 treks. Make sure you rank order which one is most desired down to the number 3 choice.

Thank you all and we will see you Thursday.

Mr. Donald Reeves — Scoutmaster, Troop 103

2020 Northern Tier Information

CanoeingDear Troop 103,

Just a quick update on Northern Tier.

I am happy to report that enough scouts committed to the trek to submit a lottery request for two crews last week. We’ll find out the results of the lottery (including the actually dates) in February. Currently there slots for up to 3 additional scouts.

Note, if you have submitted a contract I will be sending a follow up message in the next day or so. If you don’t get something from me, please send me a note in case I mistyped your email address.

Yours in scouting,

Mr. Jeff Nelson — Assistant Scoutmaster, Troop 103

Post-campout checklist that every Scout needs

Piles of BackpacksReprinted from Scouting.org

It’s Sunday night after a fun but exhausting weekend of camping.

But before your Scout collapses on the couch with a book, favorite show or videogame, hand them their post-campout checklist.

You’ll be glad to have everything put away properly and your Scout smelling good again.

They’ll be glad upon arrival at their next campout to find everything clean and ready for use.

By following the 10-step post-campout checklist below, your Scouts can make the transition from Scouting on Sunday to school on Monday much easier.

The ideas come from Lombard, Ill., Scouter Sherrie Nielsen.

Sherrie knows of what she speaks. She’s been in Scouting for 23 years as assistant Scoutmaster and committee chairwoman, in addition to serving on her district’s advancement committee.

I’ve included Sherrie’s thoughts below, but I’ve also turned them into a one-page PDF. You’re free to print it out and share it with your Scouts or fellow Scouters.

Troop 103 Campout Medication Procedure

First Aid patchParents of Troop 103 Scouts:

We are implementing a new process to better handle medications for Scouts on weekend campouts. There will be a similar workflow for SummerCamp, but more on that later!
